CLARK CO. BEGINS REDISTRICTING PROCESS
Monday, April 4th, 2011 -- 10:08 AM
Clark County has begun the once-a-decade process of redistricting. The Clark County Board of Supervisors currently has 29 members.
At a meeting last week, the redistricting committee directed the county?s GIS analyst to develop three draft plans with an odd number of supervisory districts between 23 and 29 districts.
The committee said four criteria that should be used are: equal population, maintaining whole towns/wards, protecting incumbents and keeping districts contiguous and compact.
There doesn?t seem to be a lot of interest among board members to reduce the size of the body. 17 of the 29 supervisors returned a survey on the topic; 11 of the 17 said the board should remain at its current size.
The committee will present a resolution at the April Board meeting recommending how many districts should be established.
