SUMI: BILL IS NOT LAW
Thursday, March 31st, 2011 -- 11:26 AM
Gov. Scott Walker?s administration said Thursday morning that it would abide by the latest order by a Dane County Judge and halt implementation of the controversial budget repair bill.Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi issued a terse two paragraph order Thursday morning declaring the ?2011 Wisconsin Act 10 has not been published within the meaning of (state statutes), and is therefore not in effect.?
The law would strictly curb union bargaining by public employees.
After ignoring Sumi?s previous orders, Gov. Scott Walker's administration said it would comply and discontinue the implementation of the law.
The legality of the process that led to the bill?s passage is still the question of a court case brought by the Dane County District Attorney who claims Republicans violated the state's open meetings law in their haste to pass the measure.
