BUDGET REPAIR BILL DEBATE HEADS TO SUPREME COURT
Thursday, March 24th, 2011 -- 2:50 PM
From WRN:The state Supreme Court is being asked to decide a challenge to the lawsuit stopping implementation of the budget repair bill.
The 4th District Court of Appeals says the state Supreme Court should decide if a temporary restraining order blocking the Secretary of State from publishing the law should be allowed to stand. A Dane County Judge issued the order last Friday, citing concerns that the committee that approved the law changing the collective bargaining rights of public workers may have violated the open meetings law.
Appellate judges said the case should go directly before the Supreme Court because of the significant issues it raises about stopping legislative action due to a possible open meetings law violation and the power of a court to stop a law from being published.
