LOCAL LANDMARK, TV TOWER, COLLAPSES
Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011 -- 12:19 PM
A local landmark that could be seen for miles and miles has collapsed leaving WEAU-TV off the air.TV-13's transmitting tower in Fairchild collapsed last night at around 8:30 p.m. It?s still unclear why the 2,000-foot tower fell.
According to WEAU?s website, the tower fell in about three different directions. One part of the tower is across County Road H and won't be cleared until sometime Wednesday.
The tower in Fairchild was contracted back in 1966. It was one of the tallest structures in the country and up to this point, has held strong through the worst Wisconsin weather.
WEAU is working on alternative plans to bring NBC and local programming back on the air.
