GRANTON PRIMARY RESULTS WILL STAND
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 -- 11:31 AM
It looks like a redo of the primary election in the Granton School District won?t be necessary, after all.Wednesday was the deadline for candidates to formally challenge the school board primary in Clark County Circuit Court. A Circuit Court employee tells us nothing has been filed.
The primary last month was handled incorrectly. 11 candidates were vying for four spots on the April ballot when two school board members will be elected. The primary ballot directed voters to vote for ?not more than four? candidates; It should have advised voters to vote for not more than two.
Following a procedure laid out by the Government Accountability Board, one of the candidates, David Johannson, requested a recount that showed there were more votes cast than there should have been. The next step would have been for him to petition the court for a remedy?probably a complete re-vote. Again, as of yesterday?s deadline, he hadn?t done so.
According to the Government Accountability Board, the top four vote-getters will appear on next month?s ballot. They were: John W. Richmond, Doug Eichten, Omar S. Young and Terry Foss.
