A Neillsville graduate accused of killing his parents has hired a private detective. The La Crosse Tribune reports Eric Koula's defense team hired La Crosse private detective Randy Haller to help investigate the case.
The paper says no one is saying what Haller will be doing.
The 41-year-old Koula is accused of fatally shooting his parents, Dennis and Merna Koula, inside their town of Barre home May 21 to profit from their deaths. Prosecutors also accuse him of depositing a $50,000 check forged from his father's account the day after the killings.
It's not clear how Eric Koula can afford his three defense attorneys and Haller.
Koula's next hearing is set for April 29. His trial is set for July 5-19, though it is likely to be delayed.
