LOYAL TEACHERS, BOARD SETTLE CONTRACT
Thursday, February 24th, 2011 -- 1:29 PM
The Loyal School Board ratified their 2009-10 and 2010-11 teachers? contracts last night. On a 3-2 vote with two members abstaining, the board ratified a contract with the Loyal Education Association that will amount to a 3.86% total package increase in the first year of the contract and a 4% increase for the current school year.
Superintendent Graeme Williams says the union also agreed to some concessions in their health care payments. In the past, teachers that have been with the district less than 10 years paid 5% of their health insurance premium. Those with the district over 10 years paid nothing. As of February 1, everyone will contribute 6%.
Williams says their health insurance rates have jumped around 15% each of the past two years.
Now that this contract is done, it?s back to the drawing board: the 2-year contract expires on June 30th, 2011.
