WALKER: ENTITLEMENTS, PUBLIC EMPLOYEES WILL BEAR BRUNT OF BUDGET FIX

Friday, February 4th, 2011 -- 12:08 PM

From WRN:

Just days after delivering his first State of the State address to lawmakers at the Capitol, Governor Scott Walker on Thursday traveled across the northern half of the state for a number of public appearances.

Speaking at a Wausau factory, the Governor urged reforms to entitlement programs and called again on public employees to pay more toward their pensions and health care costs. He says the state needs to be reformed minded, much like businesses, in order to move forward.

Walker appealed to blue collar workers, saying the state needs to use their common sense budgeting principles and only spend the money it actually has.

The new governor also brushed aside criticisms that his speech did not offer many specific plans. He pointed to a series of special session bills already approved by lawmakers that he says have opened the state for business. Walker also noted that more details will be coming in his budget address later this month.
