NEILLSVILLE AREA PLAYERS TURN 10
Saturday, February 5th, 2011 -- 7:55 AM
For those that remember their first show, it might be hard to believe it?s been a full decade since The Neillsville Area Players first hit the stage with their production of Oklahoma!Dr. Tim Meyer and Bunny Dux, who along with Glen Grady, started the local theater group, received recognition for their 10th anniversary at the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce?s Recognition Banquet last week. Meyer says the idea was hatched while the three were traveling to Black River Falls to participate in show.
"We said, 'why can't we do this here?'," Meyer recalled. "We literally took a piece of paper we found on the floor in the backseat and started writing down ideas."
Since Oklahoma!, the revolving cast of actors and actresses have performed Charlotte?s Web, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz and Grease, to name a few.
"We've now, actually, put on 25 shows. We'll put on our 26th show in summer when we do the musical Annie," Meyer said. "We bring in the Missoula Children's Theater, which is an education thing for kids in our schools and our community--we know that's the right thing to do."
They also award two or three scholarships every year.
Their next production will be Noises Off in early March.
