A judge in Wisconsin has released an accused felon for cancer treatment after he turned himself in to authorities to receive medical care.Rock County's sheriff wanted Anthony Darwin released from jail so taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for his treatment and because the county doesn't have the facilities to treat him. Sheriff Bob Spoden says it's a balancing act of trying to do the humane thing and being a good steward of the taxpayers' money.
The 30-year-old Darwin was being held on jail on five pending cases, including battery and robbery. He was scheduled for surgery Friday at University Hospital in Madison. The Janesville Gazette says Darwin had been on the run for six years until he turned himself in Jan. 10 with stage four testicular cancer.
