BRUCE MOUND'S FUTURE DISCUSSED
Thursday, January 27th, 2011 -- 1:53 PM
Could this be the last winter that Bruce Mound is under Clark County control? The Forestry and Parks committee met today and discussed the future of the skiing, snowboarding and tubing facility.
The committee unanimously voted to send back a $100,000 donation from the Lunda Charitable Trust of Black River Falls that was earmarked for developing new ski runs.
Forestry and Parks Department officials explained the proposed new runs would likely cost more than the $200,000 set aside for the project and would include long term maintenance and operational costs.
The committee also heard from Corporation Counsel Lyndsey Brunette who said a resolution passed in 2005 would force the county to pay back $300,000 in donations from Lunda if they sell or lease the facility before January 2017.
Bruce Mound lost $22,000 in calendar year 2010 and Brian Duell of the Forestry and Parks Department said there were other expenses that weren?t included in that figure. Duell said those proposing the recent expansions at the facility ?painted a pretty picture,? but the projects came in well over budget.
Members of the Friends of Bruce Mound, a private group that supports the hill, will be invited to next month?s meeting to discuss the future of the facility.
