Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 -- 11:12 AM
A major area employer is selling one segment of their business, but it won?t affect their Neillsville plant.Cummins Inc. announced Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement to sell its exhaust business to Chicago-based Global Tube. The sale affects Cummins? acoustic exhaust operations in Stoughton, Arcadia, Black River Falls and Viroqua.
Neillsville?s Cummin?s Filtration plant, which employs around 250 people, is not included in the sale.
Cummins spokesperson Janet Williams told us the sale is meant to allow the company to focus more on filtration products.
"We're committed to being in Wisconsin. We have a strong presence there," she says. "(The sale) allows us to concentrate on our very important after-treatment business, which is Cummins Emissions Solutions."
When asked if Cummins planned to sell filtration operations, like the one in Neillsville, Williams said ?absolutely not.?
Williams says Global Tube indicated they planned to retain the workforce at the Cummins locations and revive the Nelson products name.
