JACKSON CO. TO CONSIDER BOARD CUT
Friday, January 14th, 2011 -- 12:21 PM
A neighboring county will consider cutting their county board size.According to the Jackson County Chronicle, Jackson County Board Chair Dennis Eberhardt will propose reducing the number of supervisors next week. The board currently has 19 members.
Counties have to redistrict every 10 years as new census data is released. Eberhardt will float his proposal at a meeting on Monday. He thinks the county could save $2,500 for every supervisor cut.
An attempt to downsize the board from 19 members to 11 failed in 2007 when voters rejected a referendum 1,715 to 1,264.
County redistricting will begin in February or March and is expected to be finished by August 2011.
