Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 -- 12:28 PM
Clark County residents that don?t have a way to get around have a new option. The Clark County Taxi is a partnership between the Neillsville Taxi and the Clark County Department of Social Services.
"Many of our small towns are without basic needs services," explains Pamella Kernan, Business Office Manager for the Clark County Department of Social Services. "We have an aged population and a population that really needs transportation."
Kernan says the partnership will largely be funded through state grants. The Clark County Taxi is a ?demonstration project" and officials will review its effectiveness at the end of the year.
To start, the taxi will offer service to three different ?zones.? Zone 1 covers the areas in and around Neillsville, Granton, Greenwood and Loyal. The taxi will operate in this zone on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Zone 2 is in the northeastern corner of the county, and service will be offered there on Tuesdays. Zone 3 is in the northwestern corner of the county and service is offered there on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons.
"This is public transportation in its purest form. Anyone can use this," she says. "Anyone can use this it anytime for any reason...within their zone and at that time."
