COLD AND SNOW MAY GIVE WAY TO.... FLOODING?

Monday, December 27th, 2010 -- 11:14 AM

From the National Weather Service:

...MELTING SNOW...RAINFALL COULD LEAD TO RIVER FLOODING...

A STORM SYSTEM MOVING IN AROUND THE NEW YEAR/S HOLIDAY WILL BRING
AMPLE WARM AIR INTO THE REGION FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. WITH THIS
WARM AIR WILL COME PERIODS OF RAINFALL. THE RAIN AND WARM
TEMPERATURES WILL MELT SOME OF THE 15 TO 25 INCH SNOW PACK THAT SITS
ACROSS THE REGION...WITH THE RUNOFF INTO FROZEN RIVERS AND
STREAMS. RIVERS LEVELS ARE RELATIVELY HIGH FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR
ALREADY. THIS RUNOFF SCENARIO COULD LEAD TO ICE JAMS...AND RIVER
FLOODING FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

THOSE WITH RIVER INTERESTS...OR WHO LIVE NEAR RIVER AND STREAM
BASINS...SHOULD PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FORECAST OVER THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS...ESPECIALLY AS IT PERTAINS TO THE POTENTIAL FOR
FLOODING.
