Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 -- 12:18 PM
The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce would like to receive some benefit from the city?s recently implemented room tax.The 3% tax was approved in 2008 and went into affect at the city?s 3 hotels on January 1, 2009.
In approving the tax, the council said 70% of the proceeds will be used for tourism promotion and development; 30% will go to parks and recreation.
City Clerk Rex Roehl says representatives from the Chamber were at the City Council?s meeting last night requesting they receive the 70% that?s allotted for tourism and promotion. No action was taken on the request.
The City currently has a Tourism Committee that is working on an application process for organizations to receive that money.
The city budgeted to receive about $10,000 from the tax this year.
