Friday, November 26th, 2010 -- 12:17 PM
In just a few short years, the Marshfield Rotary Winter Wonderland has become a huge draw. This year?s holiday lights display at Wildwood Park and Zoo kicks off Friday night at 5 p.m. It will feature 700,000 lights?200,000 more than last year.
"Our main point for having the event is getting food out to about 20 area food pantries," explains spokesperson Marty Anderson. "We've been very successful. In fact, last year was a record-breaking year."
Nearly 47,000 food items were donated through the Winter Wonderland last year.
More than 800 volunteers helped set up the lights, and multiple groups will help run it.
The display will be open from 5-9 p.m. every night from the opening through Tuesday, December 31st. There is no admission charge, but donations of non-perishable food or personal-care items will be collected, along with cash donations.
