'TIS THE SEASON FOR HOLIDAY MAILINGS

Traffic is set to pick up at post offices around the country.Neillsville Postmaster Lisa Schilling says the three Mondays in December tend to be some of the busiest shipping days of the year. "The three Mondays in December are the 6th, the 13th and the 20th. Those always seem to be the biggest ones. I think that has a lot to do with people getting their cards ready on the weekends," she reasons.
You can make a letter carrier?s day by putting a rubber band around your pile of Christmas cards, putting stamps on ahead of time and placing items in the front part of the mailbox so they don't "scootch" in the back.
A pet peeve of letter carriers is when well-meaning patrons tape money for postage on to their letters.
"You do it to be nice, but it's actually really hard to get that tape off without ripping the letter," Schilling says.
A better alternative is laying it on top of the envelope?no tape.
If you?re a procrastinator, it's good to know parcels sent to 544 and 555 zip codes are delivered the next day. So, if you send something on December 23rd, it will still get delivered by the 24th, Schilling says.
