CLARK CO. HUNTERS HAVE WORK TO DO
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 -- 2:59 PM
Clark County hunters have a lot of ground to make up if they?re going to retain their title as the most successful in the state of Wisconsin.According to preliminary numbers, hunters in Clark County bagged 3,166 deer during the opening weekend. 1,655 bucks and 1,511 does. That?s only good enough for 8th best in the state.
One reason was likely a season structure that allowed hunters to pass up does and wait for bucks. Clark County?s doe harvest was down 14% from last year, while the buck harvest was up almost 16%. The overall harvest here was down 1% from last year.
Polk County hunters proved the most successful, bagging 4,359 deer.
The Department of Natural Resources says the overall harvest was up 6.3% from opening weekend last year. Hunters took 54,263 bucks and 52,141 antlerless deer.
