NEW SHERIFF, FAMILIAR FACE
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010 -- 8:51 AM
Greg Herrick of the Willard area is a lifelong resident of the county and began his law enforcement career as a reserve deputy here back in 1979. On Tuesday, he realized his goal of becoming the next Sheriff by defeating Scott Haines 4,737 to 2,710. Three official write-in candidates garnered 910 votes between them."It's overwhelming," Herrick, 50, said. "It couldn't have been done without the wonderful support I've had from the communities."
Herrick said he didn?t want to single out one issue as his top priority?
"Everything's a priority. We have a lot of serious issues. Keeping every community safe, our jail secure and keeping our finances (in order). It's all serious," he said.
He contributed his success around the county to the hard work put in by his supporters and the fact that he?s been around county for so long. This was his first run for public office, and it was a wild one. After the primary, three official write-in candidates came forward.
"I was confident we ran a clean campaign. I met a lot of people that said, 'Greg, just relax. Everything will work out.' And it did."
Herrick will officially take over as Sheriff on January 3, 2011. He?ll replace the retiring Louis Rosandich.
