NEILLSVILLE LEVY GOES UP

Neillsville city residents will see their taxes go up, but by how much is still anyone?s guess.The Finance Committee recently wrapped up work on the proposed 2011 budget. Under the plan, expenditures will increase 3% to $3.2-million. The city?s property tax bill will increase 5.8% to $1,075,284.
City Clerk Rex Roehl says the city won?t know their tax rate until the state releases their assessed value. That will happen on November 1st. Last year, the city?s tax rate was $10.54 per thousand dollars of property. Roehl anticipates the city?s property value will actually go down this year, which means, with the levy amount going up, the tax rate will definitely be going up.
The city?s budget hearing is scheduled for November 9th.
