BOY, FAMILY THANKFUL FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Friday, October 8th, 2010 -- 2:19 PM

The family of an 18-month-old boy fighting the affects of brain damage has been blown away by the community?s support.

Krue Murphy Czarnecki?s mother, Kellie Murphy, says her son suffered a brain injury in January when he was only 10-months-old.

"Initially, he was flown from Black River Falls down to Gundersen Lutheran (in La Crosse)," she explains. "They didn't even know if Krue was going to live or not."

His vision, cognitive functions and mobility have been impacted.

"It primarily affected the left side of his body," she says.

He spent several weeks in intensive care in La Crosse, a month at a specialty hospital in St. Paul and another six weeks at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he's made excellent progress.

The brain is still a bit of mystery to doctors, but it?s becoming clear it has the ability to reform pathways with proper therapy?but there are no guarantees.

"Some kids you can't even tell they've had such a traumatic injury, but there are some kids that are at 4- to 5-month level the rest of their lives," Murphy notes.

Kellie says the family has been extremely humbled by the support the community has shown.

"I'm blown away by how much generosity, support and how much work is going into this upcoming benefit for Krue. It is extremely humbling."

The benefit for Krue will be on Sunday, October 17th at Strike Time Lanes. Donations to Krue?s family can be made at Associated Bank in Neillsville. You can learn more by visiting http://www.benefitforkrue.com.
