Domestic violence homicides are at a 10-year-high.According to a new report released Thursday, fifty-two people were killed in 47 domestic violence incidents in Wisconsin during 2009.
In addition, 15 perpetrators of the domestic violence killings last year took their own lives, pushing the total number of domestic violence-related deaths to a 10-year high of 67.
35 of the victims were female, 40 of 48 perpetrators were men and most of the killings involved intimate partner violence.
The study also found 52% of the incidents involved a victim or someone close to the victim who had left the relationship or was taking action to leave the relationship, such as moving out or filing for divorce.
At least 52 minor children were left orphaned or without a mother or father as a result of the incidents.
