Granton School Board Hears Information on Wellness Program

The Granton School Board heard a spotlight on education at their recent meeting.

The board heard information on a Physical, Mental, & Emotional Wellness Program presented by Courtney Schoessow. Student Council Representative Tanner Friedemann reported on student activities including Christmas activities and the Girls Basketball game win against Owen-Withee.

The board also approved the space available for Special Education open enrollment students as presented and recommended by administration.  Also, Board Member Dennis Kuehn was presented with a plaque, on behalf of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, by Interim District Administrator James Kuchta for his 20 years of service as a school board member.

The board also approved the Certification of School Board Candidates. Theresa Hasz & Paul Knoff have filed candidacy paperwork for the Spring Election on April 6th. They will be running unopposed.

The board also reviewed the COVID-19 Protocol Plan and approved the administration recommendation continuing with the current face mask requirement. Positive cases will be posted on the school website and Facebook.

The board also discussed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act at length. FFCRA expired on December 31st. The board tabled action on this item.  Mr. Kuchta also reported that Granton has received all money associated with School Safety Grant Act 143.

Also, information was presented for a proposal to re-do the lower parking lot. Board member Paul Knoff suggested, if the school moves forward with this project, to also investigate putting in public access to the school forest.

Also, following discussion on different options for District Administrator evaluation the board decided to start with a feedback survey to go out to all staff.  Finally, the board approved a Special Ed Teacher Contract for Jennifer Lade for the current school year and Board President Theresa Hasz will attend the virtual Wisconsin Association of School Boards Convention on January 20th-22nd.

Granton Principal Amanda Kraus updated the board on Virtual Learning/Reinforcement Day participation for December and the Student and  Staff members of the Month and the English Language Learners Tutor Opportunity providing help for students.

Interim Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on the maintenance and facilities.  He also stated there’s a Strategic Plan Steering Committee meeting on Thursday, January 21st at 7 pm in the Granton Field House.

Also, the Granton Community Child Care Center revenue & expenses for daycare in December of 2020 showed a profit of just under $2,000.  Also, mowing and trimming bids are being accepted through February 1st for a three-year contract.

Finally, Mr. Kuchta also shared that weekly interviews are conducted with Central Wisconsin Broadcasting on local radio stations. Staff members are interviewed highlighting Granton teachers, staff and programs.
