FLU SHOTS URGED
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 -- 1:00 PM
The flu season is creeping up on us again. The Clark County Health Department has already started holding flu shot clinics around the county.
"They say October to April is the peak flu season," says Jodi Sleznikow, a public health nurse. "I've seen reports of there being confirmed cases of flu in the United States already at the beginning of this month."
Of course, last year at this time, everyone was going crazy worrying about the H1N1 strain. A lot of people got it, but studies have shown it wasn?t any more dangerous than the typical seasonal flu.
Sleznikow says this year?s vaccine contains protection against the seasonal flu and the H1N1 strain and everyone?s encouraged to get it.
"Generally, they say young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. This year they're saying everybody," she notes.
The Health Department has clinic dates around the county starting on Wednesday, October 6th, plus you can walk-in to the Health Department from 1-4 p.m. on Mondays.
