Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 -- 10:25 AM
Today is the beginning of black bear hunting season in Wisconsin which runs through October 12th. The Wisconsin DNR says last year, over 7,000 harvest permits were available and hunters harvested more than 3,900 bears. That's the highest bear harvest known in Wisconsin history. The DNR says hunters may use bait and other methods, not utilizing dogs, from now until September 14th. From the 15th through October 5th, hunters may use dogs, bait, and/or other methods. From October 6th through October12th, the DNR says you may hunt with only the aid of dogs.
