KOULA BOUND OVER FOR TRIAL

Monday, August 30th, 2010 -- 2:00 PM

A 1988 graduate of Neillsville High School is now bound over for trial on charges that he killed his parents and forged a check to himself.

During testimony on Friday, investigators said Eric Koula received over $1 million from his parents between 2006 and 2009, but lost it playing the stock market.

His credit cards were maxed and he had no source of income.

So, Eric went to his parents? home on May 21, shot his mother, Merna, in the back of the head as she worked on the computer and then waited for his father, Dennis, to get back from work. He shot him as he walked through the door.

He then deposited a forged $50,000 check from his father's investment account the day after the killings.

Metal fragments extracted during the autopsies are consistent with .22-caliber ammunition found next to a .22-caliber rifle in an upstairs closet.

Investigators believe they've caught Eric in a number of lies. He initially told them he was making big money playing the stock market from his home, but conceded in later interviews he deposited the $50,000 check to support his day trading. While testimony showed he was current on his credit card and mortgage payments, Koula owes $45,000 in back taxes.

An arraignment is set for Wednesday.
