GUARD UNIT LED BY NEILLSVILLE MAN RECEIVES ACCOLADES

A dozen Wisconsin Army National Guard soldiers have received the Purple Heart for wounds they suffered in Afghanistan last year.Eleven soldiers from the Rhinelander-based 951st Engineer Company received the medals during a ceremony on Friday at the Rhinelander armory.
The unit worked to clear improvised explosive devices from roads. Sgt. Ryan Adams was killed in action on Oct. 2 in Logar Province.
All the 951st's soliders have earned the Valorous Unit award, which recognizes heorism in action against an armed enemy.
The company was led by Brian Barth of Neillsville.
