SMART GROWTH KICKING UP CONTROVERSY IN JACKSON CO.
Monday, August 9th, 2010 -- 11:14 AM
Smart Growth is stirring up controversy in Jackson County. It sounds very similar to what happened in Clark County a few years back. Jackson County embarked on a process to develop a comprehensive plan. The county received thousands of dollars from the state to develop the plan, but now they?re having trouble getting it approved.
Four townships have elected not to approve their land use plans. Officials say they?re not sure what impact those township decisions will have on the county?s overall plan.
Municipalities that don?t have a Smart Growth Plan run the risk of losing local land use regulation.
Clark County?s Board of Supervisors defeated their comprehensive plan in 2006. At a recent meeting, they resurrected the plan, directing a committee to update and bring it back to the board.
