HUMANE SOCIETY FINALIST IN PEPSI CONTEST
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 -- 12:42 PM
A local organization is very close to winning a quarter-of-a-million dollars, but they need the public?s help.Pepsi Corporation is giving away grants as part of their Refresh Everything project.
The Clark County Humane Society decided to send in an application. They were excited when they were selected as one of the 1,100 finalists. Now, public voting will determine the two winners of $250,000 grants and the Humane Society is currently 17th in the voting with only a few weeks to go.
"We're incredibly proud of that. We must have an awful lot of people who are voting for us," exlaims the CCHS's Chuck Wegner.
He hopes everyone in the area that?s eligible will log onto www.refresheverything.com/clarkcounty and place their vote for the Clark County Humane Society.
"Anybody that is 13 or older can go to that site and read our project descriptions and see a little video we made. They can vote once per day. On July 31st, they're going to total up the votes, and whoever has the most votes is going to be winner," he says.
Wegner says the money would really come in handy. Like many shelters, the CCHS is expecting a lot of animals coming there way next year, when the so-called Puppy Mill bill goes into effect.
Their application specifies the grant would be used to construct an addition to care for ?puppy mill survivors?.
