EVERS WANTS CHANCE TO RUN AGAINST KIND

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 -- 12:07 PM

Rep. Ron Kind will have a Republican challenger come November, but first, Republicans will have to choose between at least two candidates in September.

State Sen. Dan Kapanke announced his bid for Congress months ago. More recently, Holmen businessman Bruce Evers decided to run.

"What really drove me to the decision is my grandchildren," Evers says, "and the opportunities that the young people in America are losing on a daily basis. The taxes, the overspending."

Evers has had a journeyman career leading banks and insurance companies; now he runs his own financial business. He?s alarmed by the current state of the U.S. government?s ledger.

"We crossed over the $13-trillion debt about six weeks ago. It's about $1-billion per day," Evers laments.

He?s part of the Tea Party movement, which he says is made up of concerned citizens from many sides of the political spectrum.

While Sen. Kapanke definitely has better name recognition in the 19-county district, Evers is trying to chip away.

"I'm not a guy of rhetoric. I find people are looking for straight answers. Dan is a great guy...but that is not the issue, it's how we focus on the issues that's important," Evers explains.

Evers and Kapanke will appear on the Republican Primary ballot on September 14th.
