CROWDED FIELD FOR SHERRIF GROWS

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 -- 1:03 PM

There are some local elections where it?s difficult to find even one candidate, then there?s the race for Clark County Sheriff.

The retirement of Sheriff Louis Rosandich has opened the floodgates for the position. We learned of another candidate today.

72-year-old Tony Trunkel of Willard announced his plans to seek the Republican nomination for Clark County Sheriff. In a press release, Trunkel says he would try to save the county money by implementing electronic monitoring for non-violent criminals. He would also like to see a Sheriff?s Department employee become certified to enforce immigration laws.

Trunkel will square-off against Deputy Greg Herrick and Dorchester Police Chief Gary Leichtman in a Republican Primary.

Drug investigator Scott Haines and Lt. Jeffrey Parker are seeking the Democratic nomination.
