RATE INCREASE MAY BE NEEDED FOR NEILLSVILLE UTILITIES
Monday, May 10th, 2010 -- 2:17 PM
Neillsville water and sewer rates could be going up later this year. The Commission on Public Works and Utilities may elect to authorize a study of possible rate increase Tuesday night.
City Clerk/Treasurer Rex Roehl says the utilities are supposed to be self-funded, but ran over $324,000 in the red last year.
Sewer rates were last increased in 2007; water rates were last increased in 2005.
Roehl says city residents and businesses have cut back on water usage, causing the deficit.
The soonest a rate hike could be implemented is the 4th quarter of this year.
