SPRING CLEAN-UP PLANNED FOR LOYAL
Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 -- 12:17 PM
Some Loyal area senior citizens will get help with yard chores this Saturday.Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Anthony?s Church and the United Methodist Church are teaming up with the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Clark County for their first annual Spring Clean-Up.
"We'll be doing window washing, cleaning out some flower beds," explains Sharon Hendrickson of IVC, "Spring has come much too early, so lawns have already been mowed, so we won't be doing any raking, or anything. But, we'll be doing some of those smaller chores for people in Loyal."
This type of volunteerism is an important part of allowing the elderly to stay independent and in their own home.
"It's real important. They like to maintain their homes. Sometimes at their age, their health doesn't allow them to do that," she notes. "To hire the job done would not be very effective."
"Besides that, volunteerism brings people together of all ages, and provides an opportunity for the entire community that brings rewards to the entire community," she adds.
Hendrickson is still looking for volunteers and residents who would like some chores done. Volunteers should meet at the Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall at 8 a.m. There will a continental breakfast in the morning, lunch served at noon.
The clean-up should be done by about 3 p.m. If you?d like more information about the Loyal Spring Clean-Up, you should call Interfaith at 743-7483.
