LOYAL-AREA BARN DESTROYED IN BLAZE

The Loyal Fire Department enlisted the help of two neighboring departments to battle a barn fire Saturday.The barn, located on Pelsdorf Avenue, southeast of Loyal, was fully engulfed by the time crews were dispatched at around 1:30 p.m., according to fire chief John Bauer.
Granton and Spencer departments provided assistance.
The barn was completely destroyed. At least one heifer died in the fire, and nearby buildings also sustained heat damage.
A cause has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected.
The main firefighting effort lasted about four hours, but some personnel remained on the scene to watch for flare-ups.
