CRANBERRY INDUSTRY GETS GOVT HELP

Cranberry producers will benefit from a big government purchase of their product.The U.S Department of Agriculture will soon purchase $18 million cranberries products. U.S. Senator Herb Kohl says that over the past two years the cranberry industry has experienced record harvests that have led to significant inventories and low prices for farmers.
Wisconsin is the leading producer of cranberries in the nation.
According to the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association, the cranberry industry annually contributes about $350 million to the state's economy and sustains approximately 7,200 jobs.
