FIVE MARSHFIELD TEACHERS LAID OFF
Friday, April 30th, 2010 -- 11:02 AM
Five Marshfield School District teachers got bad news this week.According to the Marshfield NewsHerald, the teachers were notified their positions would be cut due to a budget shortfall.
The layoffs were necessary to balance the district's 2010-11 school budget, which has a $1.4 million shortfall. The district's five-year, $13.5 million override referendum that passed in 2008 isn't enough to cover the deficit.
School officials point to rising health care costs and declining enrollments for the shortfall.
