AREA CHURCH HELPING THOSE IN NEED
Thursday, April 29th, 2010 -- 11:35 AM
Thursday was set to be a busy day at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Neillsville.Living Hope Evengelical-Free Church is working with 2nd Harvest and Feed My People Food Bank to host a food distribution there.
"We have a semi-load of assorted food items coming from 2nd Harvest out of Minneapolis and Feed My People Food Bank in Eau Claire," explains Pastor Steve Wentz. "We set everything out. Anyone that's interested is able to go through a line and take whatever they can use."
Around 80 volunteers signed up to assist with the event.
Many of the products are surplus items from wholesalers and retailers, which would have gone to waste otherwise.
"Typically, there's a wide-variety of food items. Breakfast cereal, fruit drinks, taco shells. Whatever they happen to have at the time," he says.
Living Hope has held about 8 of these events in recent years. The last one, about 18 months ago, helped an estimated 575 area families.
