ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY MOVES TOWARD COMPLETION
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 -- 11:51 AM
It?s taking a bit longer than expected, but Memorial Medical Center may be just weeks away from opening an assisted living facility in Neillsville."There's been a lot of plumbing, electrical, painting, but we are hoping we're going to have everything done in those areas by either the first week of May or the 2nd week of May," says a hopeful MMC CEO Scott Polenz.
The facility will be called ?Sunset Gardens? and will be located in what used to be the lower unit of the nursing home.
Officials hoped the facility could be open by September of last year. Then, the goal date was pushed back to the end of 2009, but they kept running into bureaucratic hurdles.
"They would approve the doors opening up a certain way, then came back six months later and said we couldn't do that," he says. "There are probably a half-dozen examples of them changing their minds."
"This is a huge problem with hospitals across the state trying to get up and running in a timely fashion, so, we weren't the only ones."
There will be 11 single rooms and two double rooms.
The recent sale of the nursing home has had no impact on the assisted living center plans moving forward. There will be several new hires associated with the facility.
Interest has been high and Polenz says the waiting list is at around 15 to 16 people.
