GOING TO EXTREMES FOR EDUCATION

Friday, April 23rd, 2010 -- 12:16 PM

A group of five Granton educators walked from their school to Marshfield last night to raise money for a new outdoor learning initiative.

Twenty miles, and over six hours later, the gang had raised over $2,000.

4-K teacher Ron Klein organized Thursday?s 2nd annual fundraising walk from Granton Elementary to Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield.

?Last year, I had been much more prepared. I had been running on the treadmill. I felt great all the way through the walk,? Klein explained. ?This year, I really hadn?t had time to do any training.?

Klein was joined on the walk by Kindergarten teacher Annette Woller, Title 1 coordinator Becky Volonec, English/Spanish instructor Sara Cisar and principal Craig Anderson.

?The hamstrings are a little tight, I won?t lie to you,? Anderson said. ?It was a lot of fun.?

The Green Team project includes a school garden, themed gardens and the construction of an outdoor classroom and walking trails.
