Monday, April 19th, 2010 -- 10:13 AM
An area county is set to get a big payout from the Ho-Chunk Nation.According to county documents, Jackson County would receive an annual payment of $472,000 from the Nation. The U.S. government holds 472 acres in trust for the Nation. Under the Wisconsin Gaming Compact, tribes pay a portion of their gaming revenues to the state, but the pact has been amended to allow the tribes to pay $1,000 per acre held in trust directly to the county.
Clark County, which has significantly fewer acres held in trust, would also see $20,000 under a proposal that will go before the county board this month.
