Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 -- 10:15 PM
The City of Neillsville will have a new Mayor.Dewey Poeschel defeated longtime mayor Diane Murphy in yesterday?s election. The final tally was 282 for Poeschel to 260 for Murphy.
Poeschel was excited when he heard the results last night.
"Both my wife and I are very excited. This is cool," he said.
He said he had "absolutely no idea" what led to his victory. Now, he's looking forward to rolling up his sleeves and trying to bring more industry to town.
Murphy has served 14 years as mayor. The City has undergone a lot of changes and challenges during that stretch.
Murphy and her son, Mike, recently moved their businesses out of the downtown to a location on USH 10. She believes that may have rubbed people the wrong way.
"I knew in my heart there probably would be problems. I love what we did up here, and I love my son, so if this is what's got to be, it's got to be," she said. "We were trying to do something better for the city of Neillsville, but a lot of people took it wrong."
Among her many accomplishments, Murphy cites bringing businesses like OEM and the new dental clinic among the most memorable.
