$10-million might be coming to Marshfield for a new dental school. The state's Joint Committee on Finance authorized the spending yesterday on a 12-3 vote.
The bonding would be matched by the Marshfield Clinic.
Access to dental care is widely believed to be one of the most critical problems facing Wisconsin and a new study shows almost half of the state's dentists plan to retire in the next few years.
Some Republicans on the committee complained the spending smacked of ?pork?, but State Senator Julie Lassa (D-St. Point) disagreed. "It's not about pork, or delivering for the district, but it's about taking care of the real needs of people all across this state," she said.
Marshfield Clinic operates a dental clinic in Neillsville, and 4 others around the northwest part of the state.
