MOVIE SHOT IN NORTHWOODS WINNING PRAISE

A movie shot entirely in northern Wisconsin continues to win praise on the festival circuit."[i]Dawning[/i] is a psychological horror film," explains co-producer Christopher Grap. "It's kind of a throwback to more of a 60s, seventies-type of feel, where more of the unseen is what frightens you. It plays on tensions between the characters more than gore and special effects."
It was shot at a lake cabin near Hayward. The cast is small (five people). The plot focuses on a brother and sister who are going to the cabin to visit their father and step-mother.
"There's tension within the family, but we don't know why that's there, initially. Then, the family dog is mortally wounded and their cabin is invaded by a mysterious stranger, who is disheveled and says he's there to protect them, but we don't know from what."
While the movie doesn?t feature a big-name cast like, say, [i]Public Enemies[/i], which was also shot in Wisconsin, Grap says it?s always a cool experience to see a familiar landscape on the big screen.
"It's fantastic to see those things on screen that you're familiar with. The industry is something that people don't have accessible to them everyday. To come down to see how these people work is very interesting," he says.
The film has won numerous awards, including Best Screenplay and Audience Choice at the Solstice Film Festival. While he says it?s ?not as accessible as Transformers?, Grap hopes to market it to independent theater chains.
