Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen wants to sue the federal government over the new health care reform law, but he needs permission to do it.On Thursday, the Republican formally asked the legislature and governor for permission to join other states challenging the constitutionality of the law.
Van Hollen believes the portion of the law requiring people to carry health insurance could infringe on their freedoms.
But, the lawsuit is unlikely. Doyle is a Democrat who supports the bill, and both houses of the state legislature are controlled by Democrats.
Republican lawmakers have circulated a letter in support of joining the lawsuit being brought by attorneys general in 13 states.
