POESCHEL CHALLENGES MURPHY FOR MAYOR

Monday, March 22nd, 2010 -- 11:31 AM

It will be a busy Spring Election Day in the area.

On April 6th, local voters will be faced with plenty of school board, county board and city races. There will also be a big referendum question in the Greenwood School District.

Here in Neillsville, two will vie for Mayor.

Dewey Poeschel will challenge incumbent Diane Murphy.

We spoke with both candidates last week. We?ll play the entire interviews Tuesday on our In Depth program at 9:03 on Memories 1370 AM.

Poeschel has lived in Neillsville for the past 17 years. He manages the produce department at Bob and Caryl?s IGA. He?s currently president of the Neillsville school board. He says his personal experiences would help him if elected as Mayor.

"My professional career, just dealing with people everyday is a good start," he says. "I've got customers, suppliers, management, other employees... everybody has a different range of personalities with different perspectives on issues."

The school board experience has helped, as well. "Working with administration on budgets, personnel issues and policy changes, I think that's a pretty good start," he says.

Murphy has been a self-employed accountant for 27 years. She?s seeking another term because she cares about the future of the city. She says her 14 years as mayor have taught her many things.

"I allocate my time to attend meetings and stay on top of the issues facing the city. I do have a good working relationship with the employers in the Industrial Park and always help them with their needs," she explains.

"I always work with the Common Council, committees and commissions to keep things moving forward," Murphy says.
