BOARD APPROVES $100K FOR EVIDENCE BLDG
Friday, February 26th, 2010 -- 10:07 AM
The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved spending an additional $100,000 so the Sheriff?s Department can purchase and upgrade a building to store evidence.During the budget process, supervisors shot down a budget provision that would have allotted the department $700,000 to construct a new building to house evidence.
They elected to move $600,000 to the Highway Department, leaving the Sheriff?s department with $100,000.
That prompted them to look at existing buildings in the area. They've found a building they think will work, but it's going to cost a bit more than $100,000.
The resolution approved last night sends $100,000 from the general fund to the Sheriff?s Department to purchase the Midwest Trailers building on USH 10, west of Neillsville.
The $100,000 would bring their budget to $200,000: $150,000 to purchase the building and $50,000 to make the needed improvements.
The board also passed the 1st reading of an ordinance that imposes a residency requirement for Clark County department heads.
The ordinance, sponsored by the Personnel Committee, requires all department heads establish and maintain their actual residences within the boundaries of Clark County.
The ordinance does not apply to current department heads, just new hires. It also gives new hires one year to comply, or face termination.
