COUNTY BOARD TO TAKE UP RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT, EVIDENCE BLDG
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 -- 11:41 AM
The Clark County Sheriff?s Department might get their evidence storage building Thursday night. You might remember the County Board shot down a budget provision that would have allotted the department $700,000 to construct a new building to house evidence.
They elected to move $600,000 to the Highway Department, leaving the Sheriff?s department with $100,000.
That prompted them to look at existing buildings in the area. They've found a building they think will work, but it's going to cost a bit more than $100,000.
Supervisors will consider a resolution at their meeting Thursday that would move $100,000 from the general fund to the Sheriff?s Department to purchase the Midwest Trailers building on USH 10, west of Neillsville.
The $100,000 would bring their budget to $200,000. $150,000 to purchase the building and $50,000 to make the needed improvements.
Also Thursday, the board will take up an ordinance that will impose a residency requirement for Clark County department heads.
The ordinance, sponsored by the Personnel Committee, would require all department heads establish and maintain their actual residences within the boundaries of Clark County.
The ordinance does not apply to current department heads, just new hires. It also gives new hires one year to comply, or face termination.
The Board could pass the 1st reading of the ordinance Thursday. Ordinances require three readings.
