REPORT: DROWNED STUDENT WAS DRUNK
Friday, February 19th, 2010 -- 11:26 AM
The college student who drowned in the Mississippi River at La Crosse this week had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.21-year-old Craig Meyers died of cold water drowning with his high level of intoxication and hypothermia as contributing factors, according to Medical Examiner John Steers.
Tests show Meyers had a 0.28 blood alcohol concentration when he wandered onto the icy river early Sunday.
His father, Ken Meyers, tells the La Crosse Tribune he doesn't believe there was any foul play involved in his son's death. Nine intoxicated college-age men have drowned in area rivers since 1997. The FBI found no evidence of foul play in the previous deaths.
