ONE CENT SALES TAX FOR EDUCATION?

Thanks to WPXR reporter Ken Krall for this info:A spokesperson for a group hoping to change Wisconsin's school funding formula thinks change will come, but not overnight.
Tom Beebe, an Outreach Specialist for the Wisconsin Alliance for Excellent Schools, says the bad fiscal shape of many school districts will force change to occur.
"The bad news is nothing has changed," Beebe says, "but, for those that are looking for reform, I think the bad news is actually the good news. The crisis is what brings about the solution."
Beebe says in the past he would visit many rural districts and hear about funding problems. He says now those districts thought to be better off, like Whitefish Bay, Mequon and Greenfield, are telling him they, too, are facing problems.
Beebe's group would like to help offset the cuts by increasing the state sales tax one-cent, called "A Penny For Kids". The proposal is at their website
